Deirdre McIvor (cornet)
Deirdre has a wide range of musical interests. She studied piano to Diploma level, sings, plays guitar, tin whistle and bodhran and has performed in traditional groups and at various festivals with her brothers over the years. She has also led music groups and choirs in church.
Deirdre's brass playing began while at school alongside her brothers in Newmills Silver, a band that was founded by her Great Grandfather, John McKeown. She competed in brass ensembles in festivals and later stepped in as conductor for the band.
Deirdre was delighted to be accepted into Downshire in October 2015 and has relished the discipline and camaraderie of getting back into banding again!
