Downshire Brass is busy preparing for an exciting online concert on 27 June which will feature renowned virtuoso euphonium soloist David Childs and a variety of specially prepared solo, ensemble and full band pieces, all recorded during this period of lockdown.

The event, which will be introduced by brass band luminary Frank Renton, will raise much needed funds for the Hospice in Belfast, an organisation which has done so much to support patients and their families during the Covid19 crisis.

Band Chair Robert Mercer said, “We are delighted to be joined by David Childs and Frank Renton for this concert and grateful for their support for this important organisation in Belfast.” The concert builds on a sustained programme of weekly concerts which have taken place over the last eight weeks featuring members of the youth and senior bands.

Downshire’s Musical Director Prof Michael Alcorn said, “We’ve had an amazing response to our weekly concerts, with members of the youth and senior bands providing fantastic performances of solos, duos, trios, multi-track performances and full band works. These have been shared with an audience comprising families and friends of Downshire, with over 150 people tuning-in each week. The public concert on the 27th is the culmination of our Downshire family concert series and showcases the musicality and creativity of all the participants during these challenging times for musicians.”

The concert will be livestreamed on multiple social media platforms including YouTube and Band’s public Facebook page.  A dedicated JustGiving Page has already been set up and full details of the event will be available in the weeks ahead.
